Configure a Forum (old)

These forums have been replaced by the new forums in 10.1. Any new forums should be created using that functionality. In admin navigation where relevant these deprecated forums are labelled forums(old)

To modify an existing forum module click Forums on the Modules area of the Configure tab. The Forums screen now opens, displaying all your existing forums.

  1. Select the desired  forum and click the Edit action. This opens a new popup screen in which you can modify the details of your forum. The fields are described below.
  2. Forum introductory text - type a short piece of text that will be displayed on the top of the forum page.
  3. Email admin address - type in the box the email address of the person who will be in charge of the forum. All emails that are automatically generated by activity on the forum will be sent to this address.
  4. Days posts active - enter the number of days (between 1 and 1000) that the posts on the forum will be displayed before they are archived.
  5. Maximum post size - enter the maximum number of characters (between 500 and 25,000) that can be used in any one post.
  6. Show email addresses - tick this box if you want the users' email addresses to be displayed alongside their posts.
  7. View posts ascending - tick this box if you want the newest posts to be shown first.
  8. Expand all threads - tick this box if you want the tree of posts to be fully expanded when the page is first displayed.
  9. Moderate the forum - tick this box if you want to approve all posts before they are published on the forum.
  10. Forum table width - enter the width in pixels (between 200 and 1,000) for the table in which the forum is displayed.
  11. Table colours - Use the handy colour-pickers to select the hexadecimal colour codes for each of the table elements (e.g. #AABB99).
  12. Hours for 'new' label - enter the number of hours (between 24 and 1,000) that a post will be labelled as 'new'.
  13. Label, prompt, etc. text - There are twenty nine text fields, each used to store a short text message. The labels explain their purpose.
  14. 'New' posting icon image - type in the box the URL of the image that you want to display alongside a new post.
  15. Select the Asset Class to which this forum should belong. Leave it at default if you don't want to select a specific class.
  16. Click Publish to store your newly modified forum.
