General site settings

To view or configure the following settings for your site:

  • Click Site Settings on the Configure tab.
  • Click the '+' next to General Site Settings.
  • Site wide title - if you want to display the title of your site in the title bar of the browser, alongside the title of the page being viewed (e.g. Site Title - Page Title), type the site title here. You can select the position of the Page Title by positioning a variable called %%PageTitle%%. In the example shown below, with a site name of Online Scribe, site pages will appear in a vistor's navigation bar as "Page Name - Online Scribe". If the variable had been placed after the Site Name, the navigation bar would display "Online Scribe - Page Name"
  • Default page if navigation error - this shows the title of the page that will be displayed if a user types an incorrect URL for a page on your site. To change the default page click Change and select the new default page on the tree. The tree will close and the new default page name will be displayed.
    To use the Sitekit default page tick the box.
  • No site promotion - tick this box if you don't want your web pages to be optimised for visibility in search engines by your site's editors.
  • Files and images can only be accessed from this site - tick this box if you want to prevent people from using your files and pictures on their web pages.
  • Use strict URLs - tick this box if you want to be able to have two or more assets with the same name stored in different folders. We recommend that this option is selected for all new websites.
  • XML declaration - enter the appropriate XML compliance declaration. This will appear in the HTML at the top of every page of the site.
  • Site doc type definition - enter the appropriate doc type definition. This will appear in the HTML at the top of every page of the site.
  • Google Analytics code - if you have an account with Google Analytics and you want to apply their site analysis to this website, type the code in this box. Otherwise leave the box blank.
  • Google reCaptcha Site key - Needed to run Google recaptcha on your forms to reduce spam. Added in 11.1.
  • Google reCaptcha Secret key - Needed to run Google recaptcha on your forms to reduce spam. Added in 11.1.
  • Google Maps API Key- Needed to use Google Maps. Added in 11.2.
  • Link page descriptions in sitemap - if this box isn't selected only the page titles in the sitemap will be clickable. Tick this box to allow the user to click on page descriptions as well as page titles.
  • Output sitemap pages using HTML definitions lists - tick this box if you want to define the appearance of sitemaps using a stylesheet instead of the default table format.
  • All HTML output in DIVs rather than tables - tick this box to prevent the use of HTML tables in your website.
  • Disable 'Email this page' popup - tick this box to prevent the use of Sitekit's 'email this page' feature.
  • Disable form referrer trail - Sitekit records which pages of your site have been visited by which users and automatically includes this information when the user sends a form from your site. Tick this box to prevent the list of visited pages and their respective IP address and useragent string (added in 10.3)being included when a form is sent.
  • Downloads open in new window - Links to downloads, e.g. PDF/Word documents, open in new window. Tick this box if you prefer to have downloads open in a new window.
  • Internal links use Page title - Links to pages (Page Content) use Page title (from Page Properties). Otherwise uses the page name from the navigation tree.                                            
  • Default Site Stylesheet - Select the top level stylesheet for the site.
  • Default Site Content Layout - Select the top level content layout for the site.
  • Default Site Layout - Select the top level layout for the site.
  • Alternative Default Layout - Select the alternative layout for the site e.g. module layout. It will appear in the page layout dropdown under the default page layout options. Added in 10.1.
  • Allow Inserting of HTML into Posts - Allows HTML to be posted from front-end pages into Posts.
  • Allow users to log in to extranet automatically - tick this box to allow users' computers to store their login details so that they don't have to type them every time they want to log in.
  • Allow Auto IP Logins - Allows automatic login to user groups based on IP address
  • Max Image Upload Width (pixels) - Uploaded images will automatically reduced to this width, maintaining aspect ratio. Added in 11.3.
  • Max Image Upload Height (pixels) - Uploaded images will automatically reduced to this width, maintaining aspect ratio. Added in 11.3.
