10.3 release notes

10.3 introduces improvements to the CMS in key areas:

workflow - improved n-tier workflow
scheduled/deferred publishing
improved events display - configurable calendar page
improved searches - faceted search support in posts

In addition to these, we've introduced a view of asset classes and a new calendar page type that derives its data from posts. Additional auditing and deferred mailshot sending have been added. We've sped up emptying of the recycle bin and added an option to only remove older items. There are also changes to our data retention policy. Also please note that in line with Microsoft's discontinuation of the server 2003 support this will be the last release that supports IIS6.

Work flow

In this release we've reworked the workflow and publishing system to fully support n-tier configurable processes. The system ships with a pre-configured system: edit > approve > publish, which can be configured to do a lot more. There's now a new section in the edit tab informing you of any tasks that may need attention.

Scheduled publishing

Scheduled publishing has been a common customer feature request. 10.3 has added it to the page properties, so that rather than making your page update go out immediately on clicking publish, you can choose to have your edit only appear after a specific date. The interface is a simple calendar and time picker.

Form changes

In this release we've made several major changes to the forms module. All new forms will use the new markup. Existing forms will retain the output they already have, unless there's a switch in form properties.

New forms are built with revised markup. This markup is simpler and faster to load -- it also inserts classes for use in verification markup, so entries that don't validate can be marked up differently.
We've added five new field types - rich textbox, allowing user to enter content with markup, telephone, URL, slider and time.
We've added specific support for HTML5 - the fields above and some existing ones will have specific types associated with their entries, so that supporting browsers will react differently to the input fields.

Faceted searches, more extensions to posts

Posts were introduced in version 10 and we add functionality to them with every release, including 10.3.

The key new changes to posts are:

a richer experience for front end forum users - the forums now support configurable custom fields for forum posters.
another forum layer - previously forums were made up of discussions which could be commented on. Now those comments can be replied to as well.
faceted search - searching a post via a post-related post type is now fully supported, both in the out-of-the-box page type edit and in the API.

The original working example of a training system has been extended to include an example of faceted searching.

In line with Microsoft's discontinuation of the server 2003 support this will be the last release that supports IIS6. The next release, scheduled for autumn 2015 will only run on IIS7.
