Auto Extranet Login (using IP range)

This article describes automatic login for extranet IPs within a specified range.

User group types for extranet functionality.

  • One that is allowed to store password in cookie (tickbox on userlogin that asks save password).
  • One that is authenticated by the IP range the user is coming from.

Notes:

  • Automatic logon by IP is associated with a user group - which specifies the user rights gained upon login. However since the login process is anonymous - anyone within the IP range will get the rights for that user group - whether or not they are a user in the system or a user associated with that user group;
  • If you try to access a restricted page and your IP is within the range then you are logged on and if that user group gives you rights to that page then you get the content - otherwise you will be presented with a log in prompt.
  • If you are logged on automatically from your IP then you do not get a log off button/link in navigation (wouldn't make much sense);
  • What if you are automatically logged on from IP but you are a user from a user group that has more rights than the group with the auto IP logon? Well for this purpose - and if you have been automatically logged on from your IP - then you are provided with a change user button/link in navigation. This allows you to logout and in again as a different user (you provide username and password). If you change user in this way then you are no longer an anonymous user and you would get a login button.
