Publisher Mode - Cannot Select Page for Publishing

Allow Users to Comment on Pages

Solution to problem publishing pages in publisher mode.

Problem
Selecting a page to publish - No tick box in LHS column

Explanation
A page in sitekit can have one of 3 states:-

  • Published live (unchanged)
  • Edited (changed but not released (not final))
  • Released for publish (changed and released).

A page in state 1 or 2 cannot be published because [1] is already published, [2] runs the risk of publishing content which is not final or is still being updated.

Before a page can be published it must be 'released' for publish. Another persons work cannot be released for publish, because once a page is released for publish it becomes locked until published and cannot be re-edited. The inability to release another persons work protects an editor from having their work unfairly or accidentally locked (for example if they are not finished) and the 'locking' protects the publisher from accidentally publishing work which has been edited since he/she reviewed it (or even while it is being published). A page can only be released for publishing if the last person to edit it decides to release it. The page is then locked untill it is published. Trying to EDIT someone else's page will result in the option to override their changes then releasing it for publishing. If the user has publisher rights the page can be released for publishing and publish it at the same time (only if the user is the last editor of the page).
