11.3 Release notes

For this release we have mainly focused on the admin usability of the system and have worked to make life a little simpler to manage and update sites.
This effort has covered the whole admin portal but there has been some focus on the following areas:-

Forms

In this release we have upgraded some of the aspects of the form administration to make life easier for our editors. For further help with administering form see our form configuration guide.

New interface for selection fields

We have upgraded the selection fields to make it clearer what items are in the list and simpler to add new ones (no more comma separated options).

Increasing the integration between forms and posts, we have also allowed the selection fields to be powered by a post type bringing all the power of posts to your forms.

Copy and paste

We know some forms can be tedious to create, especially when adding lots of similar fields, so we have now added copy and paste to all the fields in the editor, hopefully making forms a little easier to administer.

Encrypted forms

We have redesigned the interface for encrypted forms to make it easy to view your submissions.

We have now made it possible to decrypt a form that was previously set to encrypted. When a form is decrypted all future submissions will no longer be encrypted but you can choose if you want to decrypt all your old submission or leave them encrypted if they still contain sensitive data.

Other

We have migrated the edit profile function to the forms module to allow you to customise the profile editing experience for your users.

Added a new field; Confirm, to enable you to confirm a users input (e.g. when they are creating a password).

Improved the email verification workflow to not notify you or your APIs until the submitter has confirmed ownership of their stated email address.

Added the form title to the submission view page.

Posts

We have tidied up the interfaces that interact with posts to reduce confusion, from irrelevant fields to ordering in a more expected manor.

Post editing

When editing posts some of the fields are irrelevant depending on the post type and configuration, we have hopefully simplified this for the following situations...

On news-based posts we have removed the “All day” checkbox, added "expires" checkbox which exposes "do not show after" date field, changed the listing page default ordering to latest item first, and removed the End Date column.

We have done the same for events-based posts, hiding the time fields if the "all day" checkbox is checked.

As posts rely on the unique post ID we have worked to make this more visible, like including it in the listing grid.

When creating a post you might want to link to it from another page on your site, up until now this required a manual copy of the page address to create the link.

This has now been made simpler by adding a posts listing/search to our link pickers, so you can just select the post you want and the link will be created for you.

Not only is this in the page editor, but we have added it to all our pickers so that you can link to related posts where ever you can link to pages and to make it easier to find the post you want we now list posts alphabetically in all post pickers.

Events

Previously when an event was updated the diary entry id was changed, breaking previously shared links, we have updated this behaviour to try and reuse the id as much as possible.

As the requirements to comply with the cookie law have been updated we have also updated our controls and settings to match.

There is a new site setting, "Block Cookies Until User Consents", that will enable the new cookie management removing all nonessential cookies until the user accepts them bringing your site inline with the current cookie consent laws.

To ease user management this also includes a new cookie banner with access to control the level of cookies the user wishes to consent to, we include some basic styling and functionality but you are welocme to customise this and can control what scripts are loaded in the script manager.

Other

While lots of focus was put on the areas listed above, we have also added some enhancements to several other areas to make your lives as admins that bit easier.

Search

We've heard that finding the right page can be difficult if they have same or similar names so we have added some context to the search results so you can get the right file first time every time.

The new contextual navigation search

We have also added some performance enhancements to this search to get you to the file you want faster.

Files/Images

When deleting files we will no longer require you to unlink the file from all linked lists and just move it to the wastebasket performing the removal automatically. If you wish to check if a file is used in linked pages this can be discovered in the file properties.

We have now added a site setting to automatically scale down images on upload to prevent filling your site with over-sized images, this will prevent the accidental use of over-sized images which slows your site and wastes your users bandwidth.
