News Modules

Sitekit News Modules enables you to easily manage news articles on your site. Articles can be shared between multiple news modules and are available as RSS feeds for syndication.

News can now be converted into posts to give greater flexibility of display. News may be deprecated in the future

The following section provides step by step instructions on how to set up a news module, for guidelines on article creation see the Editorial help  'Adding News Articles'

How to create a news module

  1. Go to the Configure tab and select News.
  2. This will open the News Configuration section where all your site's news modules are listed in table format.
  3. The columns show the Name, Language, Description and Archive Period of each module as well as a links to further Actions.
  4. At the bottom of the table there are blank fields to add information about your new News Module; fill in each of these and click the Add link in the Actions column
    • Name - type in the box the name of the news module.
    • Description - type in the box a short description of the news service; this will be used in RSS feeds.
    • Archive period - enter the number of days after which news articles in this module will be automatically archived.
  5. The new Module will now appear on the list (in alphabetical order).
  6. To edit the module select Edit in the Actions column.
  7. This will open the Edit News module window, here you can edit the News Modules Properties as well as see the usage of each module.
  8. To edit the News Module properties, select the properties tab and complete the following:
    1. Text to display if no news - type a short piece of text that will be displayed on the news page if no news articles have been added.
    2. Text to display if no archive news - type a short piece of text that will be displayed on the news archive page if no articles have been archived.
    3. Link to news details? - select Yes to create a link from a news summary to a separate page displaying the full news story.
    4. Page for News Article - Select the source page from which the News Module derives its Navigation and Styling information.
    5. Page for Archived News Article - Select the source page from which the News Module Archive derives its Navigation and Styling information.
    6. News Module Folder - Type in the name of the News Folder. This is a free-text description - not the name of an actual folder. (Sitekit CMS v9.5 introduced Friendly URLs for News Items. A frienly URL consists of three items - the Domain Name, the News Module Folder Name, and the Web Page Name. Between them, these three items provide a search-engine friendly URL).
    7. Allow image pop-up? - select Yes to make the image that is associated with a news article clickable. When the image in the article is clicked a full-size version of the image is displayed in a pop-up window.
  9. Select an Asset Class to which this module belongs.
  10. To save your changes click the Publish button at the top of the window
  11. To see where the news module is used select the Usage tab; the table shows the following:
    1. ShortcutID.
    2. Navigation Label - this is the Navigation label of the page where the news module is used.
    3. Page Title - this is the title of the page where the news module is used.
    4. Page Name - this is the web address name of the news Module.
  12. Note a news module can be used on more than one page.

How to delete a News Module

  1. Go to the Configure tab and select News.
  2. This will open the News Configuration section where all your site's news modules are listed in table format.
  3. In the Actions column of the Module you want to delete click the Action  Delete. You will be asked to confirm that you really want to delete the module. Click OK to delete.
