Taxonomy

When you create a Metadata Scheme, you define a list of data descriptions which you wish to associate with a Page. For example, you might wish to store a Creation Date, Author, or Subject.

An editor with Permission to edit Page Properties can then type data into these Metadata fields.

Often, though, you may want to restrict the data which the editor can enter. Instead of giving editors a free choice, you can instead provide them with a pre-defined list of acceptable data. For example, you could provide a list of Author Names and Subjects, making sure that your Editors enter appropriate (and correctly spelled) data.

Classifying data in this way is termed Taxonomy, and Sitekit handles it by applying a Thesaurus (or several different Thesauri) to a Metadata Scheme.

The creation of a Thesaurus requires some basic familiarity with XML.
