Adding a News Article

To add a News Article click News on the Edit tab. From the drop-down list select the News Module to which you want to add article. Select either Details or Calendar view.

If you selected Details you must click the Add News button to add an article.

If you selected Calendar then you can either click the Add News button, or double-click a day in the displayed calendar.

Note: The Calendar View can be manipulated in a number of ways. Clicking the <> buttons will move backwards and forwards a month. Selecting Month or Timeline
will display a month or week calendar respectively. Clicking the down arrow icon will open a conveniently small monthly calendar.

When you have clicked Add News or double-clicked a calendar day, the News
Article Editor
screen now opens. Here you can enter all the news details.

  1. Type a title for your article in the Title box.
  2. Type in a Web Page Name. This will be part of the "Friendly URL" which identifies each News Item. Because it's part of an URL, you should include .htm at the end of the name, and you should not include any spaces in the name. So "Latest-News.htm" is fine and "Latest News" is not acceptable. (Note that Friendly URLs were introduced in Sitekit CMS v9.5. Older versions of Sitekit CMS will not prompt you for a Web Page Name).
  3. Type a summary for your article in the Summary box.
  4. Type the full text of your news article in the Body Text box.
  5. Set appropriate dates and times in the Do not show before and Do not show after boxes.(There are helpful popup calendars alongside these fields to help you select the right dates). If you are using the Calendar View, then the start date will default to the date that you double-clicked to create the new article.
  6. If you want to include a picture with the summary text click Enter new picture in the Summary Picture section.
In the pop-up window, choose a picture from the library or upload a new picture to the library. When a preview of the picture that you want to use is displayed click OK.
  7. If you want to include a picture with the news article click Enter new picture in the Body Picture section.
In the pop-up window, choose a picture from the library or upload a new picture to the library. When a preview of the picture that you want to use is displayed click OK.
  8. If you want to give your audience access to files relating to your article click Add Download Files in the Choose files to show with this news article section. This opens the Asset List Editor. Here you can either select an existing Asset List of files, or create a new list.
  9. If you want to Include the article in other news modules tick the appropriate boxes next to the list of available modules.
  10. If you want to add a link to this article to other pages on your website tick the box next to Make this article available as an internal link.
  11. Click Publish to save and publish your new article.

Notes

Sitekit creates News Pages from News Modules. News Modules themselves are controlled in the Configure section of Sitekit CMS.News.

Modules can be configured to use news pages that are created using the Publish News function. Editors control the content of these news pages via the Publish News link on the Edit tab.Alternatively, news modules can be configured to use editorial pages as news articles. In
this case editors control the content of news articles by adding and editing pages. If you are unsure which way your news module has been configured contact your administrator.
